History

It all started with the winning of 2 first class Continental RTW tickets from the American Express Wishlist way back in 2007 equivalently delivered with 560K miles. 6 years later with the merger of United and Continental, topping off the account to 700K miles with credit card offers, and a planned Leave of Absence from work, this trip is actually taking place starting 4/3/2013 and ending 6/28/2013.

We ate the Durian...

Well today we finally tried the Durian fruit. For those that don't know what this is, it is a notorious fruit with a bad rap for a horrible smell. Even Andrew Zimmern from Bizarre foods can't seem to eat this. And for some further nostalgia, if you played Super Mario Sunshine from the Nintendo Game Cube console, this was the spiked bowling ball sized fruit Mario needed to kick around many obstacles to get coins. Over all it really doesn't smell that bad, at least to us. It is definitely pungent, but not terrible.  The taste is really hard to describe, especially since the texture is also very odd for a fruit.  It is creamy and stringy at the same time. There is a sweet custard like flavor, but oddly onion or garlic like as well.  We definitely couldn't eat much of it, but are very glad we tried it. Its also a delicacy here and it not cheap even in Thailand.
