The Yellow Pin is where we currently are, with some delay. Points of interest will also be added as we visit them and lodging ones are already there. Click on blue flight segment lines for flight info and real time tracking (lighter segments are completed). Red Segments have train info and green are for car segments.

History

It all started with the winning of 2 first class Continental RTW tickets from the American Express Wishlist way back in 2007 equivalently delivered with 560K miles. 6 years later with the merger of United and Continental, topping off the account to 700K miles with credit card offers, and a planned Leave of Absence from work, this trip is actually taking place starting 4/3/2013 and ending 6/28/2013.

Moving on from Aussie Land

The time has come again for us to continue our Journey. Thailand is our next stop with Phuket first and then Bangkok.

This is the first time we are absolutely ready to move on. Unfortunately Australia in general did not meet our expectations. It really is just too much like California at almost double the cost. Sydney = LA and Melbourne = San Francisco, both + a little wrongness and odder rowdy attitude. We will give credit where it is due though. It is pretty here, both landscape and a disproportionately people wise, and we have had excellent food and drink. But seriously for anyone considering spending the time and money to get here from the states, we just didn't find anything overwhelming different or interesting enough to make it a destination.

We close here with some random shots of our last couple days. Looking forward to our first time on Thai Airways in their Royal Silk Class of service getting to Thailand.

Enjoying Coffee shop and Sweets (Lots of opportunities here for this)

One of our many feasts of delicious food

Lily Black's bar (largest collection of working bitters in the world they claim).  There are a bunch of these old school prohibition era bars in Melbourne and all quite good with varying ambiances.

Fairly cool architecture in Melbourne in general, almost Berlin like with old meets new.

We just had to photo op this. One of our favorite cult YouTube videos from the Metro authority here has a billboard with the characters. They really must have had a large amount of train related deaths here. http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DIJNR2EpS0jw&h=HAQHnUDlY
